Last July (July 8-12), two of our young cambiaMO researchers, Isabel Jiménez and Sandra García, attended at the University of the Aegean the launch of the Summer School – “Future-ready transport, shipping, and logistics: Rethinking competence and skills”, organized within the European project Erasmus + REFOCUS, of which cambiaMO is a partner, together with five other organizations (University of the Aegean, University of Antwerp, Andaira S. Coop. Mad., Delft University of Technology). In the program, in addition to the cambiaMO partners, a variety of students and even professionals who wanted to be trained decided to participate in order to strengthen their competences in transport and logistics to cope with the climate crisis.
The REFOCUS project was initiated to combat the threat posed by climate change, with the transport sector being one of the main causes. Urgent action is needed to change current practices. To this end, REFOCUS wants to address the problem by developing educational programs to teach students about transport, shipping, logistics and how to learn to act against climate change.
To achieve this goal, the project has prepared a summer school divided into six courses and staffed by professors from the universities of Antwerp, Chios and Delft. In addition to teaching students about sustainability, resilience and climate neutrality, they were also introduced to security, collaboration strategies and port innovation. In this way, the students’ intrigue for improving the future in these interconnected and constantly changing fields was fostered.
