Floridea, will participate in the 7th International Conference on Women and Gender in Transportation, organized by the Transportation Research Board (TRB) from September 10 to 12, 2024, at the Beckman Center in Irvine, California. Floridea will contribute to the Workshop on Securing Safe Journeys: Enhancing Transportation Safety through a Gender Lens, an essential session aimed at addressing gender-inclusive safety in transportation.

This workshop, proposed by Dr. Alyssa Ryan, will bring together global experts to explore safety challenges, strategies for inclusive security measures, and real-world case studies of gender-based violence and harassment in transportation. Floridea will present lessons learned from two European projects, BGD funded by the EIB and the Transport Operator of Barcelona- TMB, and SPINE

In her presentation “Progress and Possibilities: Bridging Perspectives,” she will highlight key takeaways from collaborative efforts, particularly from case studies in Barcelona, Spain, and Brazil. These include strategies for shifting from surveillance-based methods to care-centered approaches, improving training for public transport staff, and integrating gender-transformative business cases. She will emphasize the importance of applying gender assessment tools, establishing monitoring systems, and promoting intersectional data collection to ensure safer transportation environments.

This event will provide a timely platform to reshape global conversations on transportation safety, with a focus on fostering inclusive, respectful, and secure journeys for women, girls, and gender-diverse people. In the current social climate, addressing gender-specific safety challenges in transportation is urgent. With a growing awareness of diverse journey experiences, this workshop provides a timely platform to reshape conversations and actions. The collective commitment to advancing genders-inclusive safety is a fundamental step towards prioritizing the well-being and security of all individuals in transportation systems.
